The Smart Approach to Compliance: Continuous Training

12th February 2025

Compliance training is an essential part of any regulated business, ensuring teams stay up to date with the latest requirements and best practices. However, all too often, compliance training gets crammed into a single month - either December, to get it in before year end, or January, to get it out the way as soon as possible at the start of the year, therefore creating an overwhelming rush to complete courses rather than fostering true learning and application.

From our experience of running our compliance academy our advice is, businesses should embrace compliance training as a continuous, year-round initiative rather than cram it into a month. Here’s why.

Making Compliance Training More Effective

To ensure compliance training is meaningful, employees should be encouraged to walk away from each session having learned at least one actionable insight that can improve their day-to-day work. Here are some ways to enhance training effectiveness:

  • Space Training Throughout the Year
Avoid the January crunch (especially now ICE is earlier) by implementing a rolling training schedule. Regular sessions help reinforce knowledge and ensure employees are always aligned with regulatory updates.

  • Encourage Practical Application
Compliance should not be theoretical. Training should include real-world scenarios and even company policies through pathways so employees can immediately apply what they’ve learned.

  • Engage with Interactive Content
Passive learning leads to poor retention. Utilising quizzes, case studies, and interactive modules can help employees engage with the material and retain key information.

By shifting from a once-a-year approach to a continuous learning model, businesses can not only stay ahead of regulatory requirements but also foster a culture of compliance that is proactive rather than reactive. Let’s make compliance training a year-round priority, and ensure teams are always prepared for the challenges ahead.
